Dance With Me, Dad

Four years old when I opened my present,
Pink ballet slippers for me,
I know now your smile and that look in your eyes
Knew the words from my mouth would soon be:

Dance with me, Daddy, I love you.
Dance with me, Dad, one more time.
Spin me and twirl me, and lift me up high,
Dance with me, Dad, one more time.

Eighteen now and time I was leaving.
Soon I will be on my way.
You've helped pack my bags and you're driving me there,
But I know you wish I could stay.

So dance with me, Dad, before I go.
Dance with me Dad, one more time.
You're always with me wherever I go,
But dance with me Dad, one more time.

Well, today is your fiftieth birthday.
I'd love to come knock on your door.
I can't make it now, but please save me a dance
For your hundredth, in 2054.

Dance with me Dad, it's your birthday.
Dance with me Dad, one more time.
They're playing that old song, remember the tune,
And dance with me Dad, one more time.

Thank you so much for all that you've done,
You've helped me in ways you don't know.
Your own father gone by the time you were my age,
I'm lucky to have you for years more to come...

So dance with me Dad, it's your birthday,
Dance with me Dad, one more time.
They're playing that old song - remember the tune?
Dance with me Dad, one more time.
